ABOUT US

Our Beliefs

We believe in God the Father, Christ the Son and the Holy Ghost. We believe that Christ is the Son of God, was conceived by the Holy Ghost, born of the virgin Mary, preached 3 years, was sentenced by Pontius Pilate, crucified on Calvary without condemnation, and that he arose on the third day, triumphant over death and hell. He was by the eleven disciples and then by more than 500. We believe that he ascended into Heaven, and now sitteth on the right hand of God. We believe that he will descend again at the last day to judge the world. We believe in keeping the whole law that we preserve our bodies holy and acceptable unto the Lord. I believe in attending my church and holding her above my highest joy, keeping me steadfast in the faith, so mote it be, Amen.

Mission and Purpose

Our mission and purpose is to provide a well-defined spiritual enrichment program that teaches spiritual growth in Jesus Christ through the word of God, while reaching out to the community, developing Christian values and beliefs, and providing quality instruction in faith through strong leadership.

Our History

Faith of Our Forefathers
The Church of the Living God P.G.T. is classified as Protestant. The Church was established in 1905 by Evangelist W.H. Richardson, and services were held under a brush arbor at 511 Chase Street. In 1906 the first frame building was constructed and in 1917, a larger permanent structure was erected and later enlarged and bricked.

Forward in Faith
After 80 years in the same location on Chase Street, the church moved “Forward in Faith” in 1982 and erected a structure on Highway 175 east on 7.2 acres of land. “Committed to Christ and Destined to Serve,” Elder M.T. Jones, as pastor, and membership continued to reach out to the community telling others of the “Love of Christ” by precept and example.

Progressing in Faith
After 17 years on Highway 175 East, directed by the “Holy Spirit” and faithful leadership of Elder M.T. Jones, Elder B.D. Robinson and Eldress M. Henderson, we proceeded to “Expand our Territory.”  The construction of our 12,000 sq. ft. Family Life Center was completed. This facility is used to meet the needs of the community and available for rental.
